Claire Trundley

Claire Trundley

Claire graduated in 1990, and joined Park Woodfine in 1993 she made partner in 1997 specialising in family law. She has always worked in family law dealing with children (private law), divorce, injunctions, financial matters and separation of cohabitees. She is a member of Resolution (formerly known as the SFLA) and has obtained accreditation as a specialist lawyer in children law (private) and financial provision, as well as being a member of the Law Society Family Law Panel. Claire is a qualified collaborative lawyer promoting settlement between couples away from the court system where possible.

In her spare time Claire keeps busy by collecting antiques, gardening and enjoys the theatre.

“I am a Family Consultant who has had the benefit of working directly with Claire Trundley in the collaborative process on two occasions this year.

With a true flair for collaborative practice, Claire clearly has the unique qualities required of a family solicitor to work in this manner. With each successive collaborative 5 way meeting, Claire has demonstrated again and again her desire to grow and develop as a collaborative practitioner.

There is one skill in particular of Claire’s that is worth mentioning in its own right, and that is her ability to ask challenging questions of the other side without it becoming cross examination. This is a skill that I rarely witness in a collaborative solicitor and worth its weight in gold.

I would recommend using Claire as a collaborative counterpart without hesitation.”

Mary Banham-Hall

Mary has completed over thirty collaborative cases over many years, nearly all successfully. Mary likes working creatively and is accustomed to complex cases involving businesses, farms, property portfolios, pensions and tax. “The secret of a successful collaborative case is the right people.  It’s not for everyone. Having said that, most couples thrive on it and the collaborative process is ideally suited to juggling a range of difficult issues, as the focus is constructive and solution-focussed, not on arguing for your best positions, so I believe you can get better results. Clients like working collaboratively, as it’s faster and more responsive to their needs than conventional processes”.

Mary graduated from UCL in Law in 1975, qualified as a solicitor in 1979 and as a mediator in 1998. She is a highly experienced and successful solicitor and mediator with 35 years practice in family law, over half of this as an acknowledged expert in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). Mary’s novel about divorce’ Love Lose Live – Divorce is a Rollercoaster’ (on Amazon) is a fast paced, gripping read about one family’s journey through its break-down. Mary’s strength, humour, common sense and ability to cut to the chase is valued by clients – and she is easy to work with.

“Most clients come through the door saying: ‘I just want it sorted.’ I can do that for them fast with Collaborative Law – and it’s user friendly.”

Mary loves the countryside, France, cooking, growing roses, patchwork, yoga and playing with her grand-children.

John Sheehan

John is a partner in UHY Hacker Young Chartered Accountants and jointly heads the firm’s Taxation Services team, advising clients on many aspects of UK taxation. He qualified with Grant Thornton in Bedford in 1981 and went on to become one of the founding principals of WKH in 2001, which then became a member of the UHY Hacker Young network in 2012. He is a member of the ICAEW’s Tax Faculty and the Forensic and Valuations Communities, carrying out tax advisory work and business valuations for UHY Hacker Young’s clients and those of other professionals. John’s expertise has been regularly called upon to advise on tax and valuation issues in matrimonial cases. Through this work he became interested in collaborative law and undertook collaborative practice training in October 2008.

John says, “Involving an accountant in the collaborative team, especially where a business is involved, can help to explain the financial position to all parties, identify and place a fair value on assets, and avoid any tax pitfalls that may occur on the sale or transfer of assets. Often one party is more financially aware than the other and the collaborative round table gives all involved the chance to get a proper understanding of what are sometimes complex issues and possible ways around financial problems.”

In his spare time John is a keen quizzer and follows Bedford Blues RUFC, Bedford Town FC and Chelsea FC.

Hardy Halls APFS

Hardy Halls APFS

Hardy is a Chartered Financial Planner with over 26 years of experience in the financial services profession.

Much of Hardy’s work is referred from professional firms which reflect his expertise in the area of pensions and divorce, trustee investment, inheritance tax planning, equity release, long-term care planning, investment planning and life protection. He is also a registered Pension Transfer specialist.

Hardy understands the importance of addressing some of the practical issues associated with any financial settlement. This can be particularly relevant where individuals have never had to deal with the finances before!

Where appropriate, Hardy has found incorporating cash flow forecasting (sometimes called Lifestyle Planning) can be very helpful when considering a potential settlement. This can give an indication of the likely financial position in the future and incorporate alternative scenarios to try and meet with clients objectives.
